Even though I am in marketing for the past 7 years. I have always struggled with creating content on a regular basis.

I wait for inspiration to strike. And also the opportunity where I can put down that inspiration on paper.

What I hadn’t realised was that I can tap into that energy of inspiration any time I wanted.

Why was I not able to do that before?

Because I didn’t have the right systems in place.

It’s difficult to find a system that works for you. You might try different techniques but when you find the one that works, Its like you have turned on the tap that connects to a dam of inspiration inside you.

You can open the tap whenever you wish!

Here is whats working for me. And can work for you.

Write down you reflection once a day

At the end of the day or early morning the next day it helps to put down your observations from the previous day. Writing down what happened and also any inspiring thoughts that came about.

If something bothers you more, expand on it. That day you visited a garden or observed something about the other person. Or you tried something new. Or you completed your daily routine with discipline.

The key is to write down thoughts as they come without judgement.

Silmilar to how Marcus Aurelius wrote Meditations for himself, you too can write down content for yourself.

You can also expand on whats questions you are stuck on. Any question that you have in mind that you would like to expand on. You can do it here.

Doing reflection in real-time

Once you start doing your reflections once a day. You will realise you don't have to wait until the end of the day. You can do it in real-time.

Even if you don't get the time, you can write a sentence down that will help during end-of-day reflection.

Knowing where to put it.

If one or two ideas stand out. You can expand on them.

Observe where you can put them across for others to read.

If its a few sentences and can also be expressed with a pic that you took then it goes on Instagram. Or else if it's short enough and you believe a video can be more impactful, you might turn the script into a Reels and publish it. It all depends on the form of the content and where your audience really is.

If it’s long form it can go on your website or social media sites like Reddit, Medium and Linkedin Articles.

Taking on the Lens of Editing

When editing it's important to see who is going to read. If the message is for someone interested in fitness then you can have an image of that kind of audience in your mind when editing.

If you are writing a post to be published lets say on a subreddit. Then by reading a few top posts on that subreddit will help you realise what audience there is. This will help you in editing and changing the tonality here and there to suit that kind of audience.

While editing you might also realise you need to expand on certain topics even more like I did for this very paragraph itself while editing.

Get, Set, Publish

Once editing is done and you have made your thoughts clearer for someone to understand. It’s time to Publish!

It's time to let go of any fear of what people will say or anxiety about how it will he perceived by others.

The only way to grow and become clearer at writing is to write and publish.

So Get Set Publish!

What not to do when reflecting via written words.

1. Judging when writing

If you try to judge what you are writing, when you are writing, it interferes with the flow. So stop judging yourself. Keep judgement for later stages when you are editing.

2. Editing when writing

When writing in a state of flow, your hands will itch to change the spelling or to edit the grammar. Keep that for later. Editing when writing again like judging, interferes with the art of writing.

3. Over-Thinking.

"I should be writing about this. Or that. And not this"

Thinking too much gets in the way of writing. The key is sit there, be absorbed in writing and let the words come out in a natural way.

Laptop vs Paper

When it comes to writing I have always been comfortable typing it out on phone to publish it later.

But recently I have realised the importance of typing content on the cloud so I can access it anywhere. When I am out and cannot open my laptop I can still access and work on my content on my phone. And vice-versa.

There is also ease of recording content on laptop or on cloud. It make search of any content or ideas for inspiration at a later date easier.

You are a powerhouse of content. You, like me just need the right system in place to bring it out!
