During the early 2010s among the masses a new type of self improvement (Its 1000s of years old and not new) was cropping up everywhere! It talked about understanding the self and others. It was Psychology!
Thats good. Psychology being commonly excepted and embraced by all. What it did was remove the stigma over mental health issues.
What it also did was make most realise that they had to go deeper to have an inner transformation. And thats what most people didn't like. Facing their deep dark sides. Doing the most painful work. So they switched to Pop Psychology.
Pop Psychology made the masses believe that self transformation could happen with less/no effort at all. And without the need to go deeper. Many books cropped up that were watered down versions that made people believe that they could transform without the need to do anything. They could just Monday Motivate themselves out of problems. AKA These books were designed to sell rather than transform.
And so the trend of Pop Psychology died down as it's didn't add anything except another novelty!
The masses who got bored of Pop Psychology turned to a new topic. That topic was Philosophy.
Thanks to a few Babas online and their way of making philosophy seem simple (too simple actually!) Pop Philosophy is the new trend of this decade!
Here again the cycle will repeat as it did with Pop Psychology and the majority will switch to something more novel once they get bored by it.
Pop Philosophy has became like Pop Psychology, a means to escape your problems rather than face them.
One of my old friends told me he wanted to achieve Nirvana now rather than later. He was following a certain Baba online to escape his current problems rather than embrace them. Which goes contrary to the ethios of Philosophy.
So its a caution. To watch out. And for those philosophers for whom the study is serious to not get caught up with it. To always make the effort to go deeper no matter how painful! To not treat philosophy as a means to avoid your problems but to use it as a tool to face your challenges head on!
